“I am an Artist for justice and peace, my works are influenced greatly by world conflicts, 9-11, violence and revenge in repeated disasters of war.”

In artistic creation, there are those who go beyond the mere reproduction of past techniques, instead choosing to transform them into a powerful message, intertwining them with the essence of life itself in a boundless and poetic fusion. In the case of this work entitled “Artist dreams”, William D. Iaculla indulges in a composition using various artistic medium to unveil a rich, enigmatic, and semi-figurative work. Could it be that an artist's dream encompasses the ability to convey messages of hope and peace through their art, transcending the conflicts and tensions of both the individual and the collective? With this thought in mind, Iaculla invites us to contemplate a scene that hovers on the borders of abstraction, yet with a palpable vitality. The expressive plasticity of the human figures, a face, silhouettes standing upright, a body on all fours, the emotionality transcribed by the presence of black ink work and yellow and red mica. The compositional line of the figures obeys a rather classical semantics, while the abstraction that dialogues with it gives the final rhythm to the work. His mastery lies not only in his ability to depict the tangible aspects of his subjects but also in his skill to convey the intangible, the unspoken truths that lie beneath the surface. This is a unique post-modernist work, dated 1993. Signed in pencil by the artist and numbered 1/1.

William D. Iaculla was an acclaimed Artist and sculptor, long time Polo Alto Resident. He passed away in 2019 at the age of 91. Inspired by nature and by the figurative and political artwork he has acquired throughout his life, William Iaculla was a prolific artist and an influential teacher. His works in a variety of materials such as clay, wood, wax, paper, and bronze converse easily with images by artists as diverse as Kandinsky and Hogarth, sharing common concerns but adopting radically different means of expression.
